It is, unfortunately, our experience that all too many parents have had concerns about their child attributed to poor parenting, over anxiety on the part of the parent, or a “phase” the child is going through. It is still the case that some professionals do not have a true and sound understanding of ADHD.
Although we firmly believe that a child or young person’s needs are best served within the NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, there are instances where parents feel that their child’s difficulties have not been properly understood and recognised by this service.
To meet this need we can offer an initial discussion, and then if appropriate, carry out an assessment with the child, family and school.
If an assessment confirms possible ADHD difficulties, Wraparound will produce an evidenced based report and can refer directly to a child and adolescent psychiatrist; Dr. Stephen Westgarth.
For families who do not wish to use the services provided by the NHS, Wraparound can offer a confidential alternative.
Wraparound is also happy to receive and discuss enquiries from adults who think that ADHD may be affecting them.
If you would like to find out more, or have any queries regarding assessment, we would be happy to chat with you.
